Bedroom Series Part 3: Three Things to Consider When Remodeling Your Bedroom

In this four part bedroom series, we will share with you how to calculate the cost of your remodel and 7 ways to change your space without knocking down walls.  We will also share with you some things to consider and 12 dos and don’ts to help you prepare for your next project.

Bedroom remodeling projects can be a fun and less intimidating project to take on, however there are still some important things to consider before you begin. Here are 3 things to consider from HGTV.

1)   Return on Your Investment
While you are most likely undertaking a remodeling project to create a space you desire, it’s always important to take in to consideration what will appeal to prospective buyers when you sell your home.  A master bedroom can give you a 40-80% return on investment, so it’s important to create a space that you love but that will also appeal to a wide audience.

2)   Aging in Peace
Whether you’re remodeling for your own use or because you’re getting ready to sell your home, it’s important to consider making spaces that will accommodate aging residents or those who may need wheelchairs or walkers. Many home owners wish to stay in their own homes rather than moving in to assisted living, so having a home that can accommodate them as they age is vital.

3)   Adding Space
Once you’ve decided what you would like to add to your bedroom, you will need to determine how you will fit this in your existing space.  It may require adding space and tearing down walls.  If this is the case you will need to ensure that you have adequate yard space and that your local zoning laws and covenants allow for your addition.

We hope these will give you something to think about when considering your next  remodeling projects, if you have any questions on your next remodeling projects call Christi at Projects General Construction at 805.682.2226.  Stay tuned for Part 4 in our bedroom series!
