Bathroom Series Part 4: Top 5 Remodeling Ideas

A well-done bathroom remodel will not only increase the value of your home, but it will provide you with many years of pleasure and comfort.  Conversely, an amateur job may not give you as large of a return on your investment, you may not end up liking the design or functionality, and it would be a headache for years to come.

In our four part series, we will share with you seven dos and seven don’ts to consider when remodeling your bathroom.  We will also share with you some tips and design ideas to help you prepare for your exciting new project.

Here are 5 ideas from Popular Mechanics when remodeling your bathroom:

Rip Up the Underlayment
Ripping out old flooring can be extremely time-consuming and difficult.  In addition it can leave behind stubborn pieces that won’t come off.  A quicker way to do this is to rip up the underlayment along with the floor covering.  Cut in to small sections for easy removal.

Use Accent Tiles
Mosaic or glass tiles are an a great way to add a personal touch to your bathroom.  It can take a ho hum bathroom to a well designed, elegant space.

Get a Curved Shower Rod
While it may seem like a small detail, a curved shower rod will add a surprising amount of space to your shower.  It will cost slightly more than your typical straight $6 rod, but at around $28 for a curved rod it’s well worth the splurge.

Update the Lighting
Don’t forget about the lighting!  This often overlooked part of a remodel can tie the room together and provide you with the adequate lighting to get ready in the morning.

Splurge on Something
Everyone works within a budget, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little splurge here and there.  For you maybe it’s having very nice fixtures, or perhaps a rain shower head.  Whatever it is, make sure you treat yourself to a little splurge.
